About Us

Brian and Jennifer Kreutner founded BJK Farms in 2007. They bought the farm he grew up on and began building a herd of purebred Hereford cattle.
Brian is a fifth-generation farmer. After graduating from Iowa State, Brian spent 12 years as an agronomist and professor before moving back home for his dream job.
Jennifer grew up on a sheep farm near Ames, Iowa and also graduated from ISU. She manages the farm office, plays trombone and handbells, and drives tractor… once in a while!
Son Jon shares Dad’s love of Herefords. He showed cattle in 4-H and at the national level. He also served on the Iowa Junior Hereford Association Board before graduating from Iowa State with his B.S. in Animal Science.
Jon’s wife, Marianne, worked for Brian for a summer and graduated from Iowa State. When they aren’t working at their day jobs or riding their three horses, Jon and Marianne can be found at the farm, clipping calves or helping with the breeding program.

Family owned and operated
All the land we farm is owned by Kreutner family members or neighbors. We don’t work for a big corporation or out-of-state landlord.

The Kreutners’ two daughters also put in their share of work on the farm. We all have fond memories of baling small square hay and straw bales, walking beans, and picking ear corn!
Sarah is now a full-time UX Designer as well as our photographer and website manager. She lives in Ames with husband Luke and one adorable kiddo. Brian is delighted that his first grandson loves tractors and cows just as much as he does!
Sophia played DII softball for the Kirkwood Eagles in Cedar Rapids and recently graduated. Her husband, Dahson, was a collegiate wrestler and also worked for Brian for a summer. When they aren’t at the gym, Sophia works at a sports medicine center and Dahson is studying chiropractic medicine.
